These restrictions apply to each physical or virtual server, unless they are deployed in a pureScale or DPF cluster. In these instances, the restrictions apply to the entire cluster. Db2 Advanced Edition provides a comprehensive database solution for the enterprise with a licensing metric to facilitate hybrid cloud deployment. This solution offers data warehousing, transactional, and analytics capabilities in one package.
Db2 Advanced Edition provides advanced features for storage optimization, in-memory computing, reliable system availability, and workload management tools. The solution also helps ensure high performance, actionable insight, continuous availability and reliability, at lower cost; whilst providing flexible deployment options for on-premises. Db2 Advanced Edition can be deployed on Linux, UNIX, or Windows servers of any size, from one processor to hundreds of processors, and on both physical and virtual servers.
Contact Datasync for more information. The DB2 Express Edition DB2 Express , a low-cost, full-function data server, is ideal for a business that requires a database, but has minimal in-house database skills. This edition provides the same support as DB2 Workgroup, but it also features simple installation, enhanced self-management, and other ease-of-use features. Businesses developing applications that require a database can embed DB2 Express as part of their solution.
DB2 Express can be licensed per user ideal for applications with just a few users or per processor value unit ideal for applications with many users, like a Web application. DB2 Express can be extended by purchasing several Feature Packs.
A Feature Pack includes several features, and can be purchased in the same manner as a DB2 data server license. There are available Feature Packs for workload management, performance optimization, high availability, pureXML, and homogeneous federation.
It can be licensed per user or per processor value unit. It provides unparalleled scalability, accessibility, and extensibility features, and is the edition of choice for most enterprises. DB2 Enterprise has its own Feature Packs as well. This means that your databases can grow to sizes that are limited only by the number of servers available.
Table 1. DB2 Express is a full-function hybrid data server, which provides very attractive entry-level pricing. Includes all of the features of DB2 Workgroup plus features required to provide the scalability to handle high user loads and provide 24x7x availability, including:. Expandable with pureXML and optional enterprise class features to preserve and improve performance, workload management, and high availability. Expandable with pureXML and advanced features like storage optimization, performance optimization, advanced access control, scale-out clustering, geodetic data, and more.

The restriction again comes in hardware. The restrictions are 16 virtual processor cores and GB of instance memory. These limits apply per server, but are also maximums for an entire pureScale or DPF cluster. This is great because at a similar cost to the old WSE, we can now use compression, WLM and all the other nifty advanced features. This is a fully supported edition of Db2 — you can call in and get support when you run into a serious issue.
You pay on a per-core basis, but instead of PVU calculations that depend on what processors are in use, they are Virtual Processor Cores. This is a much more cloud-friendly metric. Db2 is quite easy to run in a cloud environment with no silly restrictions on licensing any core the database server could run on like some other vendors out there. I believe both monthly and perpetual licensing models are available. This is now the unlimited hardware version of Db2. You buy the points, and then the points buy the Db2 edition.
The old feature matrix that so many of us got to know so well is nearly obsolete, but if you want proof of inclusion of a specific feature, it is still available in the IBM Db2 Knowledge Center. Note specifically that heterogenous federation is now included. However, Q-replication and CDC replication are now excluded across the board.
Heterogenous SQL replication remains included with every Db2 product. Your email address will not be published. Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.
