Which amelia peabody character are you

Amelia also cares for animals, particularly donkeys—which she refuses to ride unless she is allowed to check under their saddle blankets for saddle sores and then to treat the sores if she finds them. Amelia dresses practically in loose clothing, consisting of broad-brimmed hat, blouse, knee-length trousers and tool belt, while excavating—often creating a stir among the proper Victorian tourist women who, in their whalebone corsets and bustles, come to watch the Emersons excavate. Despite her unconventionality, however, Amelia insists on certain British standards: teatime in the afternoon, for instance, and flowers in her sandy garden.

Brought up as an Anglican, Peabody also insists on maintaining certain religious observances in her household as well—though she cannot always count on the rebellious Emerson to comply. Completely convinced of his own superiority as an archeologist and scholar and the inferiority of most of his peers , Emerson rants and raves through the book thus far series, tamed only by his love for Peabody. She—and adopted daughter Nefret, who has wrapped him around her little finger—are nearly the only people that can influence him.

Amelia gets her name from Amelia B. The painted pavement found by Petrie was given the treatment I have described by Petrie himself. Sherlock Holmes is mentioned off and on in the Amelia Peabody series. Peters tells us that the late Lord Baskerville was not the Lord Baskerville of Dartmoor and, thus, Sherlock Holmes fame, but was from another branch of the Baskerville family.

Under the pen name of Elizabeth Peters are two other series besides the Amelia Peabody series although the Amelia series is, by far, her most well known. One is the Vicky Bliss series about a modern art historian. Elizabeth Peters has also written 27 books under another name, Barbara Michaels. These are supernatural thrillers; the only one of which I personally have read is Ammie, Come Home , set in an old house in Georgetown in the Washington, D. Without gore and violence, these books still manage to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

Thus far, there has been no mention of a possible film or TV mystery series based on the Amelia Peabody mysteries.

There are numerous fan blogs, tumblr sites , twitter feeds, and fan fiction that talk about some of the real people who make an appearance in the Peabody series. There has been at least one article devoted to the issue of real archaeologists in the series in the Egyptology journal KMT in Edwards was the namesake for Peabody, and Petrie was the physical representation of her.

Peabody was also Kate Bradbury Griffith , a wealthy Egyptologist who was also wife to a poor Egyptologist and who gave money so her husband could continue his work. Peters would have known of Andrews due to her Egyptological background. Andrews was an independently wealthy widow who became the traveling companion to robber baron Theodore Davis , who I have written about her briefly here.

Andrews is known to us now largely because of her meticulously-kept diaries, copies of which remain at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She was at the center of a massive network of wealthy men, site foremen, archaeologists, and diggers. Andrews and Davis traveled through Egypt for 25 years on their dahabeyah, The Bedawin , excavating and entertaining in equal measure.

She had a lot of money and time — essential resources if you were going to do to archaeology in Egypt in the lateth century. She also maintained correspondence for Davis, took care of his nieces and other relatives when they were visiting, and ensured that the Bedawin was a welcoming place for visitors. One of the best examples of her archaeological contributions was the discovery of what is now known as KV 55 , which was likely a cache of burial equipment from the Amarna royal necropolis.
